Peace Works! is an initiative focused on developing safe and peaceful neighborhoods for the youth of New Bedford. It is a partnership between the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office, The Boys and Girls Club of New Bedford, and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Peaceworks seeks to provide positive opportunities for youth and their families in a selected neighborhood by helping residents create a safe haven and spread a message of non-violence. Click_here for more information about the Peaceworks program.

"We would like to thank Peace Works! and the New Bedford Juvenile Second Chance Court for giving us the opportunity to work with them for our senior project in Management Information Systems. WE all feel that we learnt far more from this experience than any class on databases." Francis Chavula, Tyler Carey, Mark Murphy, Calvin McDonald and Steve Lang. MIS 462 Fall 2010 UMASS Dartmouth

"Volunteering for Peace Works! was an uplifting experience. I believe that taking the time on my hands to do something positive was a great thing. My experience also changed my perspective on how a day off should be spent. Volunteering for the program has made me realize how little time spent doing something good leaves such a good felling. Also it set a good example for the younger children in which look up to me. I am grateful for the opportunity to have volunteered for Peace Works and would be more than willing to do so again.  Sincerely grateful, Jerica"
