Edward Dubrowski 1962-1983
Edward Dubrowski was born and raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He graduated from Alliance College in 1950 and Northeastern University School of Law in 1953. In 1954, he established his law practice in New Bedford. Two years later, he was elected to his first term on the New Bedford City Council. He served until 1963, including one term as president.
Dubrowski served as Assistant District Attorney in the Southern District of Bristol County from 1959-1960. He was also an instructor in law enforcement at Bristol Community College, a lecturer at the Massachusetts Correctional Officers Training School, and a member of the Advisory Board of the New Bedford Criminal Justice Office.
Dubrowski was elected to serve as Sheriff in 1962. He was the first Democrat to be elected to the position and the youngest in the state ever elected Sheriff. He retired on October 1, 1983.
During his retirement, Dubrowski served as a trustee for his alma mater, Alliance College from 1971-1983. He is also a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, of which he served from 1974-1982. He passed away in 1997.
